The battle is already won! So, why do we still have spiritual warfare? The Bible says the enemy walks about like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour. When we become Christians we still have to walk out our authority in Christ.
Some of it is learning what is just our flesh wanting its way and what is the enemy. We still must be fit for the warfare at hand. Exercising your faith by quoting scripture, regularly praying and by knowing this is more than a fleshly battle. When you got that part down – that is half the battle.
The Bible says resist the enemy and he will flee from you! What if he is using the people around us on a daily to make us keep resisting and keep exercising our faith? Its not a one and done. It becomes a daily picking it up until the battle is won.
Sometimes it is generational warfare. This requires digging into your heart and soul with God and repenting on behalf of those in your family line and cutting things off. It can and will stop with you. The warfare needs to take place though. The beautiful bit is that we are more equipped after it to walk others through it and we are stronger through any future battles we encounter.
Warfare deepens our faith in God and keeps us on our toes spiritually. We arent just physical beings anymore – there is a real enemy out there waging war on the children of God to keep us comfortable and living like the world. Not taking up our places as children of God and not living in victory that this world so needs to see.
Words of God from scripture to shed light on generational warfare: “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected in the third and fourth generations.” Ex. 34:6&7
Here you can see that God blesses us to a thousand generations for our faithfulness. However, for unrepented of and dealt with sin He will still repay the bloodline of sin cycles up to the third and fourth generation. The enemy doesnt want YOU to be the one to break generational curses and free your family line from ANY sin; big and obvious (like alcoholism and adultery) or the less obvious and visible (like gossip and worry/fear). All sin is treated the same and can be passed down. When we identify familial curses on our family line – we can then deal with it better and more direct. The enemy doesnt want any light to be shed on it. So even if its something you have to continually flee from and resist for a period of time – that alone is not the strength the enemy wants you to have.
We can rest in Grace and know that Jesus has cleansed us from all unrighteousness and keep reminding our self and the enemy of this freedom we now have in Jesus. The enemy is already defeated and even after you’ve experienced full, deep freedom the enemy will still try to use the same old avenues to get to you. He has no new tricks up his sleeve! Its kind of cool when you can see his strings and his inability to actually get you as a child of God!
When we become children of God and start walking with him we will still need to walk through some things – the difference is we have Jesus (the One of all strength and power) to walk us through it all! Knowing how to hear His voice and lean into Him when it gets rough is the hard part but so rewarding! We want to be Victorious Christians!
This reminds me of the Chronicles of Narnia when the Ice Queen was trying to make Edmond pay for his “sin” of helping her do evil things but the lion made a deal with the queen and took his place and paid the price that Edmond should have. She thought she could take the lions life and then come after Edmond too – but Grace! The grace of God is like that. It makes no sense but it is so humbling and profoundly heart shaking. The Lion came back and not only protected Edmond but everyone was protected from her for good!
Another type of warfare you can encounter is when the enemy just doesnt want you to blaze a new trail in life that your children and your children’s children can walk through. Being a pioneer in your faith and starting something new that helps the kingdom makes you a target of His. He doesnt want us to live victoriously or help others get free!
That warfare isnt yet familial and more about your destiny and calling. Knowing what your coming up against spiritually helps and you can then ask people to pray for you specifically, quote scriptures encouraging toward what you are trying to accomplish and you can claim victory over your situation as you pioneer new paths!
We need more warriors of the faith in this generation. Times are dark, but that just means we shine all the brighter!
“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15
